Encouraging Performance

Bryncethin started this season's campaign in Division West Central C in Tonmawr, on an afternoon that seemed more like mid winter than late summer.
It was the home side that had the big advantage of the wind and rain in the first half and they made full use of it in scoring two converted tries in the first 15 minutes of the game, the first from a push over scrum and the second when Bryncethin lost the ball in their opponents 22 which was then kicked downfield for the home side to score.
To their great credit on the day the Bryncethin eight stuck at their task, retaining possession for long periods of time and spending most of the remainder of the first half in their opponents 22. Although they failed to cross the home sides line they were rewarded with two converted penalties from centre Greg Roberts and, at 14-6 at the break and with the advantage of the elements to come, it looked as if they were in with a real chance of coming away with some points.
However, shortly in to the second period the conditions again took their tole as the ball was fumbled at a line out and and hacked ahead resulting in a try for the home side, increasing their lead to 19-6. Although Bryncethin came close to scoring a try their only score was another penalty from Roberts and it was the home side who scored the last points with a penalty in the last minutes of the game to leave the final score at 22-9.
Whilst it was not the result they were looking for to start their campaign coach David Thomas will be pleased with the way all fifteen stuck at their task and never gave in. There were particularly encouraging performances in the pack from the young front row of Owain Williams, Sam Jarvis and Ryan Nolan and second row Will Thomas whilst, in the backs, scrum half Jack Parry and young wing Jacob Williams gave their all.
Bryncethin now have a run of three home games starting with Glyncorrwg on 10th. September, Nantyfyllon, in the WRU bowl, on 17th. and Porthcawl on the 24th.
