Physical Match

Bryncethin were made to work hard for their win in this physical match against visitors Glyncorwg in their second West Central 3C fixture of the season.
It was the home side that opened the scoring with a well struck penalty from centre Greg Roberts, but this was cancelled out shortly after when Glyncorwg converted a penalty of their own. The game was fairly equal for a while but when the visitors made a hash of a line out on their own line home wing forward Steve James pounced on the loose ball to score a try to open up a five point lead. That score proved to be the final one of the first half and so Bryncethin lead at the break by 8-3.
Shortly into the second half home number 8 Nathan Morgan picked up from the base of a scrum on the visitors 10 metre line and, after making ground, passed on to centre Lloyd Jenkins who made a fine break before providing a scoring pass to wing Ryan James. The score seemed to give the home side a boost and they increased the pace, resulting in pressure on the visitors line and skipper Craig Howard crossing for their third try from close range to increase the points difference to 18-3. To their credit Glyncorwg kept going and finished the game the stronger but the home defence held firm to give them a deserved but hard fought win.
For Bryncethin player coach David Thomas lead from the front and was well supported by number 8 Nathan Morgan and, in the backs, the return of outside half Gareth Pearce and centre Lloyd Jenkins provided experience whilst full back Shane Howells has a good game in his more regular position of full back.
Next week Bryncethin entertain division 3B side Nantyfyllon in the WRU bowl before returning to league action the week after when they entertain Porthcawl.
