Whilst there was no doubt that Porthcawl were the better side on the day, Bryncethin contributed to their heavy defeat with a lack of discipline, poor decision making and poor basic skills at key points in the game.
The visitors threw the ball about from the start and were rewarded after 5 minutes with well worked try, followed by two penalties, to open up an 11 point gap in the first 20 minutes. Their lead was increased with a converted try and then a further penalty and, although the home side came close to their visitors line on a couple of occasions, the score stood at 21-0 to Porthcawl at the break.
Bryncethin's bad day at the office continued in the second period when they conceded what seemed a harsh penalty try following an infringement at a maul on their own line. Things then went from bad to worst when they completely miss kicked a penalty to touch which resulted in Porthcawl running in a simple try which was converted to open up a 35 point lead. The visitors final try was again a result of an error by the home side when they lost a line out which the speedy Porthcawl backs took full advantage of to cross for their fifth try of the afternoon and a final score of 42-0.
Although this was a heavy defeat the young Bryncethin side kept going until the final whistle and will look to work on the problem areas before they visit Baglan next Saturday.
