Although they had not played for three weeks, Bryncethin showed no signs of it as they opened the scoring after just five minutes in this Division 3A West Central match.
It was scrum half Lloyd Jenkins who crossed for the first try, following good handling by the backs and an excellent break from centre Shane Howells and, with outside half Ryan Jones  adding the conversion, the home side moved into a seven point lead.

Next to score was experienced back row forward Mark Thomas, who crossed for a try after supporting another fine movement from the backs. Jones was again on target with the conversion before the visitors scored their first points, with a penalty, to reduce the deficit to 14-3.
With half time approaching, Mark Thomas was again on hand to cross for his second try and Jones made it three conversions out of three to add the two points and leave the score at 21-3 to Bryncethin at the break.

It was well into the second half before the next points were put on the board, and they were as a result of a try from the visitors that gave them heart with 10 minutes to go.However, with just a couple of minutes to go the home side were awarded a kickable penalty but, with the game won, they opted to run the ball in attempt to score the fourth try and, with just seconds left on the clock, the visitors were penalised again and scrum half Jenkins showed his experience to cross for the bonus point try. Connor Smallman added the conversion to leave the final score at 28-8 to Bryncethin.
On the day it was the backs that shone, but the forwards must be given credit for battling away to gain their share of possession as they struggled against a heavier and more experienced pack early on.

It was fitting therefore that the James twins, Steve a backrow forward and Ryan in the centre, were jointly awarded the man of the match.

Bryncethin's now have a four week break from the league, when they entertain Bridgend Sports club on 12th. November, however coach David Thomas will be keen to arrange some friendly fixtures in the meantime in order to build on this excellent  all round team performance.
