Bryncethin Banished by Banwen

Bryncethin will feel aggrieved at losing this league fixture as a very late dubious referees decision snatched what would have been a hard fought for victory from them.
Bryncethin had the best of the first 20 minutes of the game but it was the home side that opened the scoring when, on their first visit into their opponents 22, they were awarded a penalty which they converted and then added another 10 minutes later to open up a 6-0 lead.
Back came Bryncethin who then had two penalties in quick succession of their own, converted by scrum half Ryan Jones, to level the scores before half time.
Banwen went ahead again five minutes into the second half when they converted another penalty and then increased their lead to 16-6 when they took full advantage of a misdirected pass in the Bryncethin midfield to run in a converted try. When the home side further increased their lead with another penalty to open up a 13 point lead it looked as if they would take the spoils but to their credit Bryncethin came back with two converted tries, one from Lloyd Jenkins and the other from Ryan Jones, who also converted both, to snatch a one point lead at 20-19 with 8 minutes remaining. With just 3 minutes remaining Banwen were awarded a free kick that was passed directly to their outside who dropped a goal. The visiting supporters assumed this would be disallowed as the laws of the game don't allow it such a score, however, to everyone's amazement, it was allowed to stand and Banwen were declared winners at 22-20.
Next week Bryncethin entertain third placed Crynant and will no doubt put this unfortunate set back behind them and move on looking for a change of fortune.
