Much Improved Performance

With Porthcawl sitting on the top of the league table and Bryncethin near the bottom both sides were keen to secure the points, but for different reasons.
With Bryncethin captain Craig Morgan deciding to call a premature close to his playing career due to injury, captaincy for the day was handed to 20 year old wing forward Steve James. Even though Steve had captained the youth team in the past this was very much an  "in at the deep end" situation, but the youngster did an excellent job in leading a team that tackled until they dropped against a Porthcawl side that had a big percentage of the possession at times.
It was 15 minutes into the game when the sharp home backs created an overlap for their hooker to cross wide out and give them a five point lead that they held until the break.
The second half saw the home side continue to dominate possession but they were frustrated by some dogged defence in which Bryncethin centre, and man of the match, Nathan Morgan stood out. However Porthcawl finally managed to breach the defence for a second time as a converted try gave them 12 point lead. As playing conditions deteriorated there were mistakes and handling errors from both sides, but no further scores, and the home side ran out deserved winners by 12-0.
Is was a much improved performance from Bryncethin with good performances from second row Will Thomas, skipper James and prop Shane Jones, that will hopefully give them some confidence when they entertain Baglan next Saturday.
