Following a couple of disappointing performances Bryncethin put in a much better show against third placed Banwen and were unlucky not to come away with at least a losing bonus point.
When the visitors took a three point lead with a penalty in the first 5 minutes it looked as if it could be a long afternoon for the young home side but, with advantage of the elements, they put spells of pressure on the Banwen line but were unable to turn the pressure into points and the score remained at 3-0 at the break.
With the visitors now having the advantage of the wind and slope they may have thought more points would be forthcoming but the home scrum remained dominant and they spent spells on the visitors line and it wasn't until the last two minutes that Banwen crossed for a converted try that left the final score at 10-0.
The return of experienced players Mark Thomas, Lloyd Jenkins and Gareth Pearce helped to steady the young side but there were excellent performances from the front row of Ryan Nolan, Gareth Evans and Ieuan Davies, who gave their much more experienced opposite numbers a tough afternoon, whilst second row Ellis Andrews put in another good performance both in the line out and around the field.
Next week Bryncethin travel to take on Crynant.
