Bryncethin U14's played today in Pencoed's Tournament. With the sun out and the sky blue we were given A tough pool draw against Pencoed, Nantyffyllon, Brecon and Bridgend Sports. 1st up were Pencoed, and once again we got caught out with a slow start, once we learn we cant give teams like Pencoed a head start we will be a much better team, we narrowly lost 10 - 0, Up next were Brecon, who were well drilled with plenty of talent, that game ended in a Draw 5 - 5 with Alix scoring our try. With us still not firing on all cylinders our next game was against one of the Favorites Nantyffyllon, at last we showed what we could do and took the lead with a try by Kieron, in what was an excellent defensive display the game ended 5 - 5. Bryncethin now playing with confidence played Bridgend Sports next, winning 25 - 5, trys by Alix Kieron, Liam and Tom P x 2.
We then entered the Plate competition with a bye to the Semis due to one of the other team going home. In the Semi we were up against Brecon again, who were them selves playing with confidence with some good results in their pool matches. Bryncethin's tails were up from the start and some excellent plays from both the backs and forwards saw us cruise to victory 30 - 0, try scorers were Tom B x 2, Alix x3 and Lewis. A remarkable effort from all the boys to get us to the final.
The final was to be played against Pontyclun, A team which we have never beaten. Very little needed to be said to the boys, this was our 1st Final ever and we didn't disappoint, it was a controlled game from start to finish, the team played out of their skin winning 20 - 0, with some excellent trys scored by Ben playing his 1st game at full back, Lewis and Tom P x 2.
This was our 1st trophy win and massively deserved, despite the slow start we came away the the Plate. HUGE thank you to the Parents as it was a long day but the support never stopped. Massive thanks to the players for working hard all day.
