Ryan James - A tribute

RJ14 was a larger than life character, who epitomised the dedication a club loves to see from it's players.

We were so fortunate as a club to pick up both Ryan and Steven after they deicided to concentrate on a career in rugby with what became Ryan's beloved Cherry and Whites. He brought a dynamism to the back division and although he liked the direct approach to attacking, he also had quick feet and a sharp change of direction. We have benefitted hugely over the past 4 seasons that he had played on the wing for the seniors, seeing him score over 25 tries, sometimes from positions where others would never have scored. He loved to train and worked hard at ensuring he had a place in the Senior squad.

Tributes have come from sides that Ryan has played against, stating that even though they didn't know him personally, they knew of the damage he could cause on the field with his competitive nature and attacking prowess.

Off the field Ryan worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed being one of the boys and was often found in the middle of any partying going on where fellow players were involved. He was unashamedly out to have fun and ensure that others did too. There was also the gentler side to Ryan, whitnessed during Presentation nights where he'd be first to thank the female staff for their support during the season, asking for a photo with them, then pecking them on the cheek. That was the cheeky chappy coming out in him.

Personally and collectively, the club is going to miss our smiling winger and we all find it difficult to imagine playing matches without Twinny on the park.

RIP Ryan James
