Crowd Pleaser

Bryncethin got their 2018-19 season underway in style last weekend with an exhilarating display of running rugby. The match couldn't have got off to a better start, when on 2 minutes a training paddock move from a line out saw left wing Ryan James touchdown in the opposite corner.

The home pack, well led by vice captain Sam Jervis nullified any Crynant attacks, the back row of James Woods, Mark Thomas and Lloyd Parry John having a field day in the loose, thwarting the opposition consistently and securing great turnover ball for the electric back to counter from.

As the game progressed, so did the home side's dominance. As Crynant tried to stem the tide of Cherry and White marauders, they kept giving away lineout possession where second rows Ellis Andrews and Corey Rogers excelled in providing clean ball to allow Cai Bradley to get the young backs purring.

Left wing Aled James was next on the score sheet after superb handling between forwards and backs, James cantering in unopposed in the right corner.

The third try of the opening half was a second for Ryan James who was set free after great work by Gareth Evans and Ieuan Davies secured quick ball for fly-half Gruff Davies to supply a great cut out pass to James.

By 22 minutes the Bryncethin players were combining to put Liam Morgan into space, the fullback arcing through the defence to score wide out. First half scoring was completed, with Ryan James completing his hat-trick beating the defence to a clever kick through by a country mile.

Though Crynant worked hard to get back into the game, Bryncethin's defence held firm.
After the half time oranges, Crynant found that life was not going to get any easier. Lightening centre Josh Evans scored the sixth try 4 minutes into the half, after a searing counter attack from a turn over.

Crynant still showed flashes of what they could do, but such was the ferocity of the home defence, they soon tired. This opened the floodgates. Morgan scored his second following a counter attack from deep in the Bryncethin half and outside half Davies ghosted through some desperate defence to get on the scoresheet.
The ninth try of the day was scored by Parsons, following another impressive Davies break from deep, the skipper touching down after a brief juggling act. Fellow centre Evans rounded off the day with his side's tenth following more attacking defence from the home pack and lightening hands created the space and time behind the ruck.

There were notable displays across the park, the substitutes coming on and also making their presence felt, but Man of the Match was Lloyd Parry John, who worked tirelessly to give Bryncethin a solid platform to work from.
